Nils Duquet is the director at the Flemish Peace Institute, an independent research institute dedicated to peace research and hosted by the Flemish Parliament (Belgium).   He has been working at the Flemish Peace Institute since 2006 and has authored more than 50 policy-oriented and academic publications on topics such as illicit firearms trafficking, gun violence, terrorist access to illicit weapons markets, domestic gun policies and arms export controls in Europe.   Nils is the research coordinator of Project INSIGHT. This EU-funded project aims to develop an online knowledge platform (gunviolence.eu) on which all information related to gun violence in the European Union is centralised, including previous studies, official government data and an almost real-live online monitor on incidents on gun violence. In previous years, Nils also coordinated projects SAFTE (on terrorist access to illicit gun markets in Europe), DIVERT (on the diversion of firearms and ammunition from the legal into the illegal market in the European Union) and TARGET (on gun violence in Europe). As a research consultant he has also worked on various international projects (including UNIDIR and UNODC) on illicit firearms trafficking.     He holds a Master’s degree in Political Science and in Sociology from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
