Nicole van Rooijen is the Executive Director of Stop Killer Robots in Geneva, Switzerland. She is responsible for the overall strategic and operational management of the campaign. Prior to joining the team in January 2025, van Rooijen worked at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). In her final role there, she worked as the Head of Protection for the Asia-Pacific Region, which builds on over a decade of work at the international organisation where she advocated for the respect of international humanitarian law to minimise civilian harm in times of armed conflict.

She has worked in Côte d’Ivoire, Colombia, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, Gaza and Jordan, before coming to Geneva. Through her field experience, she has gained a deep understanding of the human cost of war and the urgent need for stronger adherence to international laws, as well as the development of new legal frameworks to keep pace with technological advancements in military and law enforcement operations.

Van Rooijen holds two masters degrees in International Politics and Human Geography.
