Nico Edwards
Nico Edwards is an ESRC-funded doctoral researcher in International Relations at the University of Sussex, UK (2022 - 2026). Her project, supervised by Prof Anna Stavrianakis and Dr Andrea Brock, explores the drivers and implications of the ongoing environmental sustainability pivot in military industry and practice. In her second year of PhD studies, Edwards was awarded the Adam Weiler Impact Award for her demonstration of research excellency and outstanding impact in and beyond academia.
Edwards has a substantial background in international humanitarian law, political economy and interdisciplinary peace and security studies from SOAS University of London, where her research rigour and critical thinking awarded her the Best Student Profile three out of four years, a wide array of scholarships and grants, and the department-wide Best Dissertation Prize for her postgraduate research on the Arms Trade Treaty.
Next to the PhD, Nico works as civil society communicator, coordinator and advisor having collaborated with myriad organisations across Europe, North and Latin America. She mobilises in particular around demilitarisation and climate justice. Edwards acts as Advisor to Scientists for Global Responsibility and is an Associated Researcher with the World Peace Foundation.
