Julián Alfie
Julián Alfie is an Argentine lawyer and public policy specialist focused on small arms and light weapons (SALW), criminal justice reform, and prosecution systems. He currently serves as Executive Director of the Instituto de Estudios Comparados en Ciencias Penales y Sociales (INECIP), a leading Latin American organization working on evidence-based criminal justice and public security policies. He is a member of the Argentine Network for Disarmament, a civil society coalition focused on advancing public policies for firearms control, disarmament, and the prevention of armed violence.
His work on arms control centers on the regulation of legal firearms markets, the prosecution of illicit arms trafficking, and the design of policies to prevent armed violence. He has developed research and policy proposals addressing the intersection between firearms and gender-based violence, with a particular focus on how access to weapons shapes patterns of lethal and domestic violence.
Beyond arms-related issues, Alfie specializes in the design and implementation of strategic prosecution policies, the performance and governance of public prosecutors’ offices, and the consolidation of adversarial justice systems across Latin America. He has advised public institutions in Argentina, including the Ministry of Justice and the Chamber of Deputies, and regularly contributes to research, training, and technical assistance initiatives in the region.
