Jowita Mieszkowska is a legal advisor at TRIAL International and a solicitor qualified in England & Wales. Her expertise lies at the intersection of business and human rights law, international human rights and humanitarian law ("IHRL” and “IHL”), and the arms trade and her work routinely engages with international legal instruments such as the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT), the EU Common Position, IHRL and IHL. At TRIAL International, she examines the role of corporate actors involved in international crimes and pursues litigation strategies before domestic and international fora, including those related to private security and military companies, for inter alia their procurement and use of weapons. Prior to TRIAL International, Mieszkowska was a legal adviser at Global Rights Compliance on the project “Enabling Civil Society Efforts to Address the Misuse, Diversion, and Abuse of Arms Exports”—a partnership with the Asser Institute, C4ADS, and Guatemalan organisations Diálogos and Fundación Myrna Mack. She has previously worked with the ICTY and was an associate in the London and Geneva offices of a leading international law firm. 

She holds a BA from the University of Oxford and an LLM from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
