John Ramming Chappell is a Senior Non Resident Fellow at the Center for International Policy and an attorney whose research and writing focuses on human rights, armed conflict, and US foreign policy. He previously worked for five years at Center for Civilians in Conflict (CIVIC), where he led advocacy campaigns on atrocity prevention in Palestine, Sudan, Yemen, Nigeria, maritime Latin America, Ukraine, and elsewhere. 

Prior to joining CIVIC, Chappell worked at think tanks and foreign policy advocacy organizations. He holds a Juris Doctor, cum laude, and a Master of Science in Foreign Service, with distinction, from Georgetown University and a BA in International Studies and Arabic, summa cum laude, from University of Mississippi. He speaks Arabic.
