Hiruni Alwishewa is an independent researcher and expert in arms control (domestic, regional, and international), human rights, and corporate responsibility. She conducts research and analytical work on the arms trade for strategic litigation and policy development projects. She holds a PhD in International Law (Summa Cum Laude) from the Geneva Graduate Institute. Her doctoral research examined the responsibilities of supply-side actors (states, arms companies, banks, arms brokers, and dealers) to prevent the adverse human rights impacts of arms exports to conflict zones. She previously worked as a federal prosecutor in Australia, where she specialized in the prosecution of terrorism and organized crime offenses. She obtained an LLM from the University of Melbourne and a combined Bachelor's degree in International Studies/LLB (Hons I) from Macquarie University, Sydney.
