Giovanna Maletta is a Senior Researcher for the Dual-Use and Arms Trade Control Programme at SIPRI. From January 2023 to August 2024 she was the Acting Director for the same programme. She joined in 2017 as an EU Non-Proliferation Consortium Intern and has been working at SIPRI since then. ​ Maletta's research work at SIPRI includes issues related to the implementation of national, multilateral and international export control standards and instruments, with a particular focus on the EU engagement with arms export policies and the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT). Her work also involves mapping cooperation and assistance activities in the field of arms transfer and SALW controls. She acted as a Project Coordinator for activities related to SIPRI’s participation in the EU Non-proliferation and Disarmament Consortium in 2018-2022. 

Prior to joining SIPRI, Maletta worked as a Blue Book Trainee in the Disarmament, Non-proliferation and Arms Export Control Division of the European External Action Service (EEAS) and as an Intern in the International Cooperation Branch of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).
