Carlos A. Pérez Ricart is assistant professor in International Relations at the Center for Research and Teaching in Economics (CIDE) in Mexico City. Prior to joining CIDE, between 2017 and 2020 he was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Oxford where he worked at both the History Faculty and the Latin American Centre, St. Antony’s College.

Pérez Ricart's general research and teaching interests include the relationship between Mexico and the United States, security and organized crime, arms trafficking, drug policies. He is currently conducting a research project that aims to examine the history of the Mexican police from a long-term historical and global perspective. His research has been published in German, English and Spanish in many peer reviewed international journals, book chapters and edited volumes. He is co-editor of the forthcoming book Gun trafficking and violence: from the global network to the local security challenge (Palgrave, St. Antony’s College 2021). 

Pérez Ricart holds a PhD in Political Science from the Freie Universität Berlin and has a degree in International Relations from El Colegio de México.
