Alfredo Malaret Baldo is an independent expert on arms control and urban violence. He has consulted for the United Nations Office of Disarmament Affairs and for the Association for Public Policy Analysis on matters of through-life conventional ammunition management and arms trade regulation, focusing on public safety and security implications. Before becoming a consultant, he worked as the Urban Violence Officer at the University of San Diego, supporting over 24 cities and 40 community-based and international organizations committed to halving urban violence by 2030, under the Peace in Our Cities network. Previously, Malaret Baldo had served as a Researcher with the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research, coordinating the urbanization of violence research portfolio. Prior to his time at UNIDIR, he worked for the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute; the United Nations Regional Centre for Peace, Disarmament and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean; and for retired United States Ambassador Dennis Jett during his time at  Pennsylvania State University.

Malaret Baldo holds master’s degrees in public affairs from Brown University and international affairs from Pennsylvania State University. He also has a bachelor's degree in political science and communication studies from Fairleigh Dickinson University. For his work reducing armed violence, he was awarded the 2024 Alumni Achievement Award by Pennsylvania State University.
